Afternoon winter sunshine on Woolacombe beach

Beautiful sunshine and surf at Woolacombe on a January day. The nearest beach for Surfing to Warcombe should you be looking for a Surfing holiday in North Devon.

Woolacombe had been a top surfing spot since the 1960s and there are surfing competitions and events throughout the year. Beach huts, children's activities and lifeguards are all there through the summer season.

We stayed back in June. Campsite was extremely clean with excellent facilities and fab views! Would definitely recommend to others.

Fab time had by all

Situated in a great position to discover the local towns and villages of Woolacombe, Mortehoe, Ilfracombe and Croyde.

We stayed on pitch 87 by the lake which had full facilities (water, waste and EHU). I recommend taking 20m of hose for the water and waste as IMO these aren't in the best position to make the most of the pitches views. We arrived with about 12m and had to visit a local shop to get the extensions (an unexpected and unwelcome additional cost), but we know for next time.

Our pitch had a great view across the small lake, which had lots of ducks to entertain the children. Fishing is available too which was great, as you could hire the rod and basic kit from the on-site store. One of the wardens - Glyn, I think, was really helpful and showed the children how to fish and nothing was to much trouble for him. We joined up with two other families and really enjoyed ourselves. All of the facilities were excellent, clean and tidy.

We don't have any negatives about the site, but feel it is on the heavy side of ££ and this would be our only consideration about returning vs other sites in the area.
