From the sea off Combesgate beach

Combesgate beach is a pretty secluded beach located at the far right-end side of Woolacombe offering some attractive rock pools - ideal for children. It is the first true sandy beach as you walk down from Mortehoe to Woolacombe along the coastal road.

Combesgate is one of the Marine Conservation Society recommended beaches,. Flat golden sands, rocks to either side, a gentle waterfall to the rear, hidden in a little cut out.

The best time to visit is between low and mid-tide, when activities can include swimming, surfing, building sandcastles and exploring the rock pools. Be aware that access to the beach itself is via a number of steep, but well maintained, steps. Combesgate is probably not be the best option for families with push chairs or those with mobility in mind.

Just back from a weeks stay at this great site, as all the other reviews before state very clean site, friendly staff and as for the shower and toilet blocks one of the best we have seen spotless at all times night or day. Some of the pitches are on a slope some on flat grass, and others very private.

Visited the local pub, the carvery was very good but would not fancy walking at night in the dark as the lanes are very narrow and no street lights.

Plenty to do and see near the site or as my husband did just sit by the lake and fish, kept him happy for hours. We took our bikes with us but that's as far as they went, the hills are far to steep for us - lol.

Excellent site and staff

Fantastic location and site. Staff very helpful and friendly (thanks for the fishing tips Glyn). Only slight down side is small shop with limited provisions (fresh pastries lovely). Missed out on the stone baked pizzas which looked excellent as missed advertising for them. Would happily stay again. Thank you.
