Woolacombe beach in May

Woolacombe beach in May

Much has been spoken about Woolacombe beach for and sometimes high expectations can lead to disappointment. But not on with this instance. A walk down from the campsite, through Mortehoe and then along this wonderful beach, at any time of the year - it is both stunning and beautiful. You can see why Woolacombe Beach was voted the Best Beach in the UK and fourth in Best Beach in Europe by Tripadvisor visitors.

It is such a vast open space at low tide and it is lovely to be able to walk the dog along the whole beach out of season.

Spent 8 days here from 7th August. Weather was mixed but the site didn't get waterlogged even through the heaviest of downpours. Reiterate previous comments about cleanliness, great showers etc. The pitch sizes are very generous and the surrounding scenery is very pretty.

It's not obvious if you don't know about it, but if you walk through the woodland area (dog walking too) you can exit into a field and onto a public footpath. This avoids the roads which are bad enough in a car but terrible if trying to walk along them (which we did!). The footpaths take you to Lee Bay, Mortehoe and Woolacombe. Steep walk back but from the beach at Mortehoe but you do feel you deserve a glass of wine while you gaze across the lake!

The shops sells a map of walks around the area for a couple of quid, which we found useful.

There are areas for the kids to play, but some loud ones decided to play footie in front of our tent (ball hit car several times), this is down to parents not adhering to the rules, rather than the fault of the site, but maybe some more signs up, say near the toilets would be good. Would recommend the site to anyone, but did see two other sites en route to Mortehoe which looked equally good.

Best camping, Great all round

What a lovely stay we had, being woken with birdsong. Had a weekend stay for a friends 40th birthday camp-out. Lovely people who run the place, even came and wished my friend happy birthday with a scone!

Our spot was overlooking the lake, so good for fishing. The site is great all round and location... is close to various beautiful beaches, gorgeous rugged walks, plenty of roads for cycling and of course sandy beaches, various sized, excellent for surfing or swimming.

Very clean amenities and the family shower rooms were fantastic compared to other campsites I've stayed on. The plots are well kept, the site is clean and tidy. The staff were extremely friendly. The site has a wonderful atmosphere, unlike others which seem pretty soulless, this one is just beautiful, with a lake in the middle and secluded pitches, it just made for a wonderful stay.

There has been a lot of effort gone into the upkeep of this lovely site, long may it continue to be successful.

Definitely be be back for another visit, and I have my eye on which pitches to book next time!! ;)
