Lovely campsite in a fairly remote location with views of the sea if you are located at the back of the site. Close to Woolacombe and Mortehoe but driving distance if you have young children.
A couple of shower blocks which are a long way from the far end of the site where we stayed but the sea views make up for it.
Having said that, there are loads of showers (so you never have to queue), a good campsite shop that sells pastries in the morning, a children's play ground (with zip wire) and a fishing lake.
Would definitely return
Where shall I start?! We are a family of 4 with 2 children ages 7 and 4.
The campsite has stunning views and has to be one of the best sites we have stayed on for facilities. The showers and toilets were always clean and never had to queue despite it being the night of the season.
We only had a takeaway once and it was Chinese night, it was fabulous. Myself and my husband had the Chinese and the children had a chicken burger. We were pleasantly surprised that the chicken burger was a plain chicken breast on a roll ( not a pre bought dodgy burger!)which was perfect for our 2.
The play area was great for the children, again one of the best we have seen on a campsite. The staff were all incredibly friendly and always acknowledged us and stopped to speak to the children.
The only negatives which are of no reflection on the site itself are: the distance to the beach, but this can easily be overcome. The first day we attempted to walk it along sandy lane and via Woolacombe bay holiday park. It was fine going took about 40 mins would have been a lot quicker but our little boy was just having 'one of those days'. coming back we decided to try the route coming back through Twitchen holiday park. It was tough as it was an incredibly hot day and we were all tired after spending all day on the beach. We got as far as Twitchen and then stopped for an Ice cream and my husband walked the rest and went and got the car to pick us up. The following day we enquired in the site shop and they gave us details of the bus, fantastic!!! It stopped right outside the site. They don't run regularly so you do have to work out your timings but well worth it!
I wouldn't allow the distance of the site from the beach deter you if you have young children as the site is definitely worth it and the bus is easy enough. You can park in Woolacombe but it's expensive and you need to get there early!
The only other slight negative which again is no reflection on the sure is it is exposed and can therefore be very windy at night. Quite bad at times but we have experienced this at other sites in Devon it's just what camping is about!
The woodland walk was fantastic too and a great idea.
Overall a fantastic break and a fantastic camping site with fantastic facilities and staff. Would definitely recommend it and would definitely go back.
