Sunset at Woolacombe Beach

Sunset at Woolacombe Beach

Always a beautiful sunset to be had at Woolacombe. The view from Woolacombe beach is simply amazing! You can see the Lundy island on clear days and the sunset is almost always pretty amazing! The beach is clean and so very wide!

Beautiful surroundings

Lovely campsite tucked away in the Devonshire countryside. Mortehoe is a 30 min walk along unpaved roads with no street lighting, which made for a tricky evening walk, but taxis easily available.

Lovely pubs in Mortehoe, with good food at reasonable prices. Nearby Lynton and Lynmouth are a revelation. The cliff railway worth a ride and some lovely little shops, just ripe for a potter. Cream teas are widely available and we took advantage as often as we could.

Stunning coastline and some lovely beaches. The only issue we had with the campsite was that not all pitches were level. However, the fact that fresh pastries were delivered every morning and Captain Hooks takeaway was available for lovely bacon baguettes made up for this.

There us a fantastic dog walking area, and as rightly bragged about on the camp website, the amenities are excellent. Warm, clean and tidy building. Spacious, fabulous showers. We would definitely visit again.

Not too big and not too small

We booked this site after reading the reviews for a 5 night break August Bank Holiday week.
We were not disappointed. Beautiful views, very helpful staff and the onsite takeaway was very good and very reasonable.

The showers are superb with masses of room which I could take myself and my daughter (10) and son (2) in with me. To solve the problem of my son not liking showers, as most 2 year olds don't, I took a large plastic crate which we had used for transporting supplies etc in the shower room and filled it up with warm water from the shower. He then happily sat in it like a bath and I could get him clean without all the yelling and screaming a shower would've caused, and I had something to carry all the wet towels and dirty clothes back to the caravan in. Loads of room to get dressed without paddling in puddles of water and we took a lot less time and water than if we'd had to use a small cubicle one at a time.

The proximity to Woolacombe/Saunton beaches is great with a short drive to either and parking at £5 for the day I considered pretty reasonable. The staff on site were very helpful but the shop was very basic. The kids play area was great fun and suited both 10 year old and 2 year old, all I had to do was pull up a camping chair and sit and drink coffee while reading my book with one eye on the kids. My 10 year old loved the zip wire and most of the children were very well behaved and didn't hog it.

She made a few friends while queueing and cant wait to go back. The husband would've loved to try the fishing lake out, but the 2 year old won't allow it at the moment so cant comment on it.

The site is not cramped, although because we booked quite late, we were on a pitch next to the main road down the hill through the site, which with a 2 year old boy isn't ideal and quite a few of the drivers didn't stick to the speed limits so extra vigilance was called for on our part.

We cannot recommend this site highly enough, not too big and not too small, facilities excellent and we'll be returning asap.
